Sports facilities
In addition to an extensive range of clubs and sports facilities, Jena offers numerous opportunities for individual and non-club sports activities.
Running routes
If you want to go running in Jena, you will find the perfect balance to everyday life both in the middle of the city and in the surrounding mountains. The signposted routes are suitable for all levels of runners.
In Paradies Park, in the heart of the city, there are three flat routes on asphalt. These are floodlit and are therefore also suitable for a run in winter.
For those who prefer something a little more ambitious, there are signposted trail running routes in the Kernberge.
The signposting of further routes in Jena Forest is also being planned. The routes shown are suggestions and ideas that can already be used.
Cycle paths
Jena and the surrounding area are great for exploring by bike. Numerous castles, palaces and other sights as well as the beautiful countryside invite you to go on excursions by bike.
From leisurely family tours to challenging routes, there is something for everyone in the route suggestions.
A presentation of road bike routes around Jena is currently in progress.
Hiking trails
Hiking is a real highlight in Jena. Numerous viewpoints and beautiful landscapes lure you into nature. The "Trixi Trias" dinosaur trail is an interactive hiking route for children. On the educational trail, young and old can find out interesting facts about dinosaurs and the landscape some 200 million years ago at exciting stations.
A special city map has been created for children, showing all the hiking trails for kids. The map is available free of charge from the children's library or at the gate at Am Anger 15.
Boules
Playing with steel balls has also become a very popular leisure activity in the city of Jena. On an area of approx. 600m² between the new Universaale school building and the Rasenmühleninsel, those interested will find plenty of space to play with family or friends.
A second space has been created in the Winzerla district at the Damaschkeweg streetcar stop. Balls can be borrowed from the local Winzerla district office (Anna-Siemsen-Straße 49).
BMX / skate park
The BMX and skate park in Paradies is one of the most beautiful outdoor facilities in Thuringia. Beginners and pros alike can have fun between the wallride quarter-bench, jumpbox and London Gab on an area of approx. 3000m². The adjacent Rasenmühleninsel invites you to barbecue and chill out.
The park is open Monday to Sunday in summer (01.03.-31.10.) 08-22 hrs and in winter (01.11.-28./29.02.) 08:00 -20:00 hrs.
Slackline
Excellent conditions have been created in Jenaer Paradies for fans of the trend sport of slacklining (also: slacklining, slacking). In addition to a fixed line for beginners, there are several attachment points (steel bollards) for your own lines. A perfect interplay of balance, concentration and coordination is required!
Exercise routes
Landgrafen
With eight stations, the exercise trail on the Landgrafen offers the opportunity to complete an individual full-body workout with different levels of difficulty. The route was renovated in 2016 and equipped with high-quality equipment.
The path and the stairs up to the Landgrafen provide optimal warm-up.
Paradise
Located south-east of the Lichtenhain Bridge, the small fitness facility was opened in December 2018. The entire body can be trained on two pull-up bars of different heights, a parallel bar and a low bar combination. The facility is located on the 3 km running circuit through the middle of the paradise.
